“…the last goal he ever scored”

Let’s be clear, I’m no sports fan. But I am a proud Torontonian and thus I have a place in my heart for the Toronto Maple Leafs. According to a story on TSN.ca a Stanley Cup ring was found in the Gulf of Mexico by a treasure hunter.

Apparently Mark DesErmia was searching the coasts of Florida with an underwater metal detector for any signs of treasure when he came across the ring of Jim Pappin on the ocean floor. Pappin played for the Leafs in the 1967-68 playoffs the last time they won the cup.

Pappin was traded to the Blackhawks and in his disappointment gave the ring to his father-in-law who proceeded to lose the ring. DesErmia has said he’ll return the ring to Pappin for a reward and that he’s been offered up to $20000 by other sources.

Maybe this is a sign! Maybe the Leafs are going to win this year. Maybe this Spring you’ll find me watching playoff games in a bar. Or maybe not.
