Blue Rodeo joins the chorus of Stephen Harper protest songs

“Your pipeline will spill its disease / you shut down all the research libraries / you muzzled all the white coats in your laboratories / then you set your sights on the CBC,” sings Blue Rodeo’s Greg Keelor in the opening of the band’s new anti-Harper song, Stealin’ All My Dreams.

Recorded and shot on Sept. 9, the song and accompanying video highlight the Conservative government’s failings with powerful lyrics and compelling (and disturbing) facts superimposed on the screen. The song comes after Tony Turner made waves earlier this month with his song Harperman (and there are many others).

“Blue Rodeo does not always speak with one voice,” wrote Blue Rodeo’s Jim Cuddy about the song. “However we feel collectively that the current administration in Canada has taken us down the wrong path. We do not seem to be the compassionate and environmentally conscious nation we once were. As respectful as we are of the variety of opinions held by our audience, ‎we felt it was time to speak up and add our voice to the conversation.”

It’s pretty catchy, too!
