Hopefully food trucks are still cool, because council voted today to loosen regulations that critics say have previously prevented the industry from blossoming in Toronto.
Most notably, trucks are now allowed to operate within 30 metres of conventional store front restaurants. It used to be 50 metres, which, because we live in a city, made it nearly impossible to find anywhere to set up shop outside of a parking lot. Food truck operators will also get a bit more sidewalk space to operate.
Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti, always the voice of reason, was the only member of council to vote against the amendments.
