Here’s what the new Jack Layton Ferry Terminal could look like

Five design proposals for the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal and Harbour Square Park were officially unveiled Monday, March 16 and are on display at City Hall in the Rotunda.

You can get a glimpse of whats being considered for the ferry terminal named after the late NDP leader until Friday, March 20 at 5 pm. And after that at the Waterfront Toronto blog where you can log on and take the online survey or join the conversation #FerryTerminalTO.

Some of the planets leading architectural firms, and some familiar ones responsible for the citys more interesting works along the waters edge, are back to make their pitch. Heres a quick look at whats being proposed:

The plan to name the terminal after Layton was fast-tracked by council in 2012. A dedication was held in 2013. The council report recommending the naming of the terminal after Layton notes his deep connection to the Toronto Islands. Besides being a fave hangout of his, Layton represented waterfront residents as city councillor and later MP, fought to save Island residents homes, and married Olivia Chow on Algonquin Island in 1988. The report also notes that Layton served as official auctioneer of the Island Public School.
