The winners of the second annual Winter Stations Design Competition to transform lifeguard stations into art installations were unveiled January 11. A total of seven projects were chosen from 380 submissions. This years theme, Freeze/Thaw, challenged participants “to create a structural response to the changing climactic conditions the cold season brings.” OCAD Us The Steam Canoe, which features solar tubes that turn snow to steam, was among the winning student entries. Other winners included entries from Laurentian University and Ryerson. The seven installations will be built from February 10 to 14 along Kew, Scarborough and Balmy beaches and formally unveiled February 15. They’ll remain open for public viewing until March 20. Enjoy.
