Protesters confront anti-Islam rally at Queens Park

Anti-racist demonstrators thwarted a small rally at Queens Park held by a group calling itself PEGIDA Canada (Patriots of Canada Against the Islamization of the West).

According to the groups Facebook event page, the September 19 rally, PEGIDAs first in Canada, was held to safeguard our communities against indiscriminate immigration. The groups signs were intended to provoke with derisive caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad and other Islamophobic messages.

PEGIDAs speakers were drowned out by the boisterous anti-racists chanting, Nazi scum, off our streets. Tensions then boiled over into a tussle when the anti-racists broke through a police line and sent PEGIDA members into retreat.

Watch the video here:

Imploring the police to Shoot them, shoot them, shoot them from the PEGIDA side was notorious homophobe and Ford Nationalist Ron Banerjee. Clayton Elmy, the white-supremacist director of the National Synergist Party of North America, Toronto chapter, was there and so was neo-Nazi Christopher Brosky, wearing a Swastika necklace. Brosky was convicted of murder in the 1991 Texas drive-by shooting of Donald Thomas, a 32-year-old black man.

During the commotion, members of Antifa International snatched the PEGIDA Canada banner and later posed with it upside down in a photo that made its way to Twitter.

PEGIDA Canada is an offshoot of Germany-based Patriotic Europeans Against Islamization of the West, whose director was forced to resign after homophobic comments and a photo of him posing as Adolf Hitler surfaced earlier this year.
