Summer days are all about lazing in the grass, baking under the sun and generally being out of doors – it’s all about the fun.
But summer nights can be spooky as hell – if you plan them right.
Why not take a ghost walk through our most ghastly historic locales? Groups like The Haunted Walk offer guided tours for around $20 (hauntedwalk.com). But you can just look up hauntings on the internet and chart your own course.
Try the Gibraltar Point Lighthouse at Centre Island. Keep your eyes peeled for the spectre of John Paul Rademuller, a lighthouse keeper who was allegedly murdered by three drunken soldiers from Fort York in 1815.
If actual ghost-hunting is too involved (or gruesome), try one of Toronto’s beautifully eerie cemeteries. We recommend the Toronto Necropolis near Riverdale Farm. It makes a great date spot.
Or you and your friends can form an ad hoc Midnight Society, find a location that makes your spine tingle and take turns learning ghost stories and trying to freak each other out. Dust off that copy of Alvin Schwartz’s Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark that gave you the creeps when you were a kid.
