Toronto has officially been selected to host the 2015 Pan American games. But is this a good thing?
There are the obvious plusses, as TTC chair Adam Giambrone pointed out on his Twitter account:
And then there are the minuses.
The last time Toronto bid on an athletic event – the 2008 Summer Olympics, which would later go to Beijing – we thankfully lost. Thankfully, that is, for economic reasons. In the year since, Beijing has not made use of their expensive Olympic structures (the Bird’s Nest has been used once post-Olympics) and was marred by low return on investment and lukewarm tourism results.
As for a much-needed injection of infrastructure, many of the venues built for the games won’t even be within city limits!
But what do you think?
