Ever noticed how many newspaper articles begin with a question? Is Stephen Harper incompetent? Will Madonna adopt again? Was Pope John II abducted by aliens?
How come so few of them provide actual answers to their hypotheses? Are they playing it both ways? By using the form of an open-ended inquiry, do journalists get away with making allusions that, if stated in a sentence ending in a question mark, would normally see them in court? If you were Lord Black's lawyers, which would you consider more litigious: "Is Conrad a crook?" or "Conrad is a crook"?
Is this all an elaborate media conspiracy or just lazy journalism? Does anyone really know the truth?
