they’ve gotta be kidding
Our cops are tops, according to the International Association of Chiefs of Police, which has just bestowed upon our force and Chief Julian Fantino a civil rights award in recognition of exceptional innovation in the investigation, elimination and/or prevention of civil rights violations. This is the same force that Amnesty cited in a recent report for brutalizing protestors. Pass the bucket. We’re about to be sick.
double standard of the week
Toronto Women’s Bookstore is taking some heat from the Canadian Jewish Congress for refusing to offer for sale Stop the Homicide Bombings buttons. How can a bookstore that stands for peace refuse to carry a button that begs for an end to the senseless killing of innocent civilians? asks CJC’s Ed Morgan. The bookstore, which says its mandate is to support the right for Jews and Palestinians to live in peace, also sells an End the Occupation button. We’d be proud to wear both.
buzz off
We always knew CAW boss Buzz Hargrove was a bit, shall we say, self-absorbed. But that five-page missive he sent out last week to say why he isn’t running for the NDP leadership makes one wonder.
