Tory road to nowhere
The provincial Tories keep playing peekaboo with their election plans, hoping citizens' attention will wander long enough to briefly forget the party's ill-fated rule and daily belly flops so it can sneak back into power. How appropriate that this clumsy crew have come up with an election policy book - The Road Ahead - that won't fit through mail slots. The Tories are wishful thinkers, though; everyone in this province will be remembering The Road Travelled, the one filled with budget-slashing and fiscal attacks on health care, education and women and kids.
Globe dreams of red future
Globe writer Lawrence Martin predicts Jack Layton and the NDP will form Canada's next federal opposition. If only.
Lyons to the lions
Sure, we're surprised to hear Toronto's corruption-stained City Hall has an ethics steering committee. And it's called for Mel Lastman bag boy and sleazy super-lobbyist Jeff Lyons to be booted from the Greater Toronto Airport Authority board. You mean the man who lobbied for two competing computer companies may be morally unfit to help administer Toronto's super-sized airport? Who's going to ask bidding airport suppliers for "success fees" endorsed by mysterious "Toms"?
Squealing police union head
Yet again police union head Craig Bromell is squealing against cop accountability. He wants the city to cover costs for all officers who are sued or prosecuted, even those who have clearly violated police procedures. And he's unleashed a job action. Funny how the police love the union movement when it serves them but are only too happy to patrol picket lines for management. Maybe if the union spent less money on bringing thuggy nuisance suits against its detractors, it'd have cash left over to help wayward cops.
Lying Jakobek fading fast
Only one day into his MFP scandal testimony and mayoralty pipe-dreamer Tom Jakobek has had to admit he's a liar. Hell, he lied to us! When asked by NOW if he'd flown on a private jet with Dash Domi to a Leafs game in Philly, he said no. "That was not true," Jakobek now admits. And this delusional budget-slasher is trying to run on integrity? He should officially be declared a fringe candidate along with the street buskers and clowns.
