Ernie's political death watch officially on
Former Ontario premier Ernie Eves is a quitter, he already bailed on his Tory buddies for big business -isn't that the same thing? - returning only when assured the premiership. Well he ain't premier anymore so let's all join the pool to pick how fast Ernie jumps the sunken ship to live on the Widow Basset's cash while he sniffs around for a Mike Harris-like ride into the Bay Street board room sunset. Upfront says he's gone in two weeks but his nasal drone won't be as welcome as good ole boy Mike Harris --business prefers winners to losers and Ernie, you're a loser. And how long will Dalton McGuinty let his ex-rival's bed mate run the provincial television network? Another pool anyone?
Nice kid, too bad about the crutches
The fluoride in Toronto's drinking water must contain some kind of Hockey E that forces residents to love the pathetic Maple Leafs. How else to explain the popularity of a team that never wins, treats its fans like crap and has a worse PR sense than Idi Amin? Now the team has booted the annual Easter Seals fundraiser skate from the Air Canada Centre. Crippled kids for chrissake! Skating with their heroes and all the time raising cash. Ken Dryden and the Leafs brass actually appear surprised that the town has gone crazy because little Timmy has been given the boot. Expect their cuddly Carlton the bear mascot to start charging kids for hugs, handshakes and high fives.
Bromell backs a loser
Good morning Craig Bromell and the Toronto Police Association. Wonder how the membership feels about the union's outrageously partisan support of the doomed Tory election drive? Now they're all working for the guys they said would destroy the province. Can the new main Marshall Dalton McGuinty be expected to be especially sympathetic to a force that predicted -through radio and newspaper ads -violence in the streets if the grits won? Bromell's imminent retirement as the union's head hot head can't come soon enough.
Homeless not on bus
So nice to see the city of Toronto's architecture and urban design awards handed out. Had to snort at the jury's honourable mention to Vicaom for their remake of the city's bus shelters. We think the wind blocking ad boards got the nod for their homeless-unfriendly, armrest packed benches more than the soft curves of the units. If only so much creativity could be brought to creating low cost housing in this "I would urge hanging for those treacherous Israeli pilots now refusing to do service in the West Bank and Gaza Strip."
