Only Rolling Stones – and they don’t like it

But aren’t the Stones supposed to love us? Kind of aggressive marketing by the SARSstock superstars who’ve signed a deal to sell their latest live DVD exclusively at Best Buy stores. Canada’s feisty retailers like HMV and Sunrise have responded to the glimmering gauntlet drop by booting all Rolling Stones product from their stores. It’ll be interesting to see who blinks first. And, yes, we know Keith doesn’t blink. He can’t. Hell, he doesn’t even have a pulse.

“A rap concert gets cancelled in Montreal a couple of weeks ago and there was 20 cars burned.”

– Maple Leaf Entertainment president (and owner of an NBA team chock full of Afro-Americans) Richard Peddie unwittingly racially profiles while trying to explain why he was worried about unruly crowds after a cancelled game. Angry punk fans – read white folk – actually started the Montreal riot.

Calling Oliver Stone

Time to call Oliver Stone. Biz boss Harold Peerenboom flies to Philly with disgraced Tom Jakobek, but neither can remember it until Jacko’s under oath. Peerenboom employed John Nunziata before his hopeless mayoralty run. Mr. P. has a cottage next to right-wing mayoral hopeful John Tory. Now Nunziata says Tory’s camp tried to bribe him to quit. And local cops can’t investigate because Nunz’s sister is on the police board. Quick, check the Grassy Knoll.

Nutty nuclear idea

Nuclear power pushers may be crazy but they’re not insane. The Nuclear Safety Commission has decided not to install surface-to-air missiles at Canadian nuclear plants in a post-9/11 security boost. They admit there’s little they can do, especially since two of the biggest plants are on flight paths to Pearson airport. Their idea is more security guards. “Uh, you there in that plane, do you have any ID?” How about shutting the unnecessary, dangerous plants altogether?

Tory, Mel without monkey

Mel-lite mayoralty dreamer JohnTory desperately hopes to reinvent himself. His latest absurd attempt is radio and TV ads trumpeting his message of “leadership, hope and change.” Too bad it’s a lie. A vote for John Tory is a vote for the corrupt cronyism that was Mayor Mel. Change? This guy was disgraced Mayor Mel’s backroom go-to guy for years. Hope? What hope is there for anything different from this old guarder? Leadership? If he could lead, why didn’t he lead Mel to do something good?
