Velcro iPad

Velcro and the iPad, together at last?

That’s the fun combo behind Jesse Rosten‘s iPad experiment, captured in a short vid and posted on his site and on Vimeo. The California filmmaker affixes two strips of Velcro to Apple’s latest gadget and then places the iPad in various parts of his house, from the kitchen (as the screen plays video recipes) to his ceiling (TV shows) to a car’s glove compartment (Google Maps).

For all you newly enamored iPad owners, don’t start hitting up supply stores to grab Velcro just yet. Rosten is quick to point out in the description of his film: “This is an exploration of what is possible, not necessarily what is practical. Tweet from the street at your own risk!”

Too true. Imagine if legions of iPad owners started staring at their gadgets instead of driving. An iPad on a motorcycle? Geez, that’s as dangerous as a steering-wheel mounted iPad.

Also, there’s good reason to believe an iPad might fall from its Velcro’d wall mount if you bump into it lightly. Sure, that photo slideshow on your wall looks cool but a broken iPad definitely sucks.

One commenter on the Vimeo site isn’t deterred by all this logic. “Now I have to buy an iPad. The Velcro sold me,” he said.

This won’t be the last innovation users create for the iPad. It was just released in Japan (same day as Canada) and those inventors don’t fool around. iPad robots, anyone?
