Taking the subway to work I’ve been noticing the posters for Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (which opens Dec. 21), and I gotta admit the image of a bare-chested John C. Reilly in full-on Jim Morrison mode made me laugh.
It also reminded me a lot of the poster for Knocked Up. Perhaps this is the year of the curly-headed heart throb. Or not.
Whether Walk Hard, a spoof of musical biopics like Walk The Line, will make me laugh, well, I’ll reserve judgment. Although I like what I see in the trailer, and it’s got a great cast – Reilly, Paul Rudd, Justin Long, Jack Black, Jason Schwartzman, Jenna Fischer and what seems to be half the Saturday Night Live cast. And White Stripe Jack White as the King, Elvis Presley.
But the movie has one more thing going for it that has my hopes up – the music. Some 32 spoof songs have been written by a bunch of musicians, ranging from rockabilly to folk to disco to psychedelia. With double entendres like “In my dreams, you're blowin' me...some kisses,” well, Dewey Cox could have the soundtrack of the year.
