So my excitement on seeing the press release from Nintendo this morning has waned, but for those of you still unaware: The Wii launches November 17th, with an MSRP of $279.95.
Now, I rushed over to the EB Games at the Eaton Centre to see if I could give them my money, but they hadn't yet heard about the release date. And to avoid the shortage problems that they had with the Xbox 360, they won't take my money until they get some solid numbers for units shipped to the store.
Discussion with friends yielded some thoughts. Mainly that it was very ballsy of Nintendo to launch the day after Sony's PS3 would hit the shelves. I had predicted that Nintendo would launch before Sony, to ensure its dominance, but who knew that Sony would garner such terrible press with delayed PAL release and unplayable commercial discs for their Blue-Ray drive?
I mean, it's one thing to come along and stomp on Sony's parade by releasing before them - but after? After, I can only assume, is Nintendo going for style points. Assuming that in both cases, Nintendo outsells Sony - a situation that the big N is well-positioned for.
Nintendo's just waiting to see if that coin-block of theirs will yield many a bonus coin.
