Will Ferrell sings Rob Ford campaign anthem on Conan

Comic performer Will Ferrell, an alumnus of the Saturday Night Live show, appeared on Conan O’Brien’s late night television program last night to make a funny joke about Rob Ford.

Ferrell appeared in costume as “Ron Burgundy” the titular Anchorman character from the Anchorman films, of which there is a new one coming out soon, December something-or-other. Ferrell was dressed as if it was the late 1970s when in fact the current year is 2013.

Ferrell-as Burgundy used his allotted time on Conan to sell tickets to his new feature film in a rather unconventional way. Instead of talking about the film – its merits, why we should see it, different goofs or japes played on set by its cast – Ferrell instead launched into a campaign song for Rob Ford, who is the mayor of Toronto and who admitted to smoking crack cocaine. This joke is funny because Rob Ford is a topical news item and you hear the words “Rob Ford” and you go “Oh, I know who that guy is.” It makes you feel good to know about, and laugh at, Toronto mayor Rob Ford.

Ferrell’s song was set to the tune of Working For The Weekend by Loverboy, which is funny because Loverboy is a Canadian band and Rob Ford, also, is a Canadian, born in Etobicoke, Ontario, May 28, 1969. You can watch the video below, and laugh at it, and share it in your social media feeds.
