Hundreds line up for what could very likely be the last one after 27 years

Hundreds of bird lovers lined up outside of the Honest Ed’s store at Bathurst and Bloor for hours on Sunday for the store’s annual turkey and fruitcake giveaway.

A long-running Toronto tradition in its 27th year, more than six tonnes of frozen meat and fruitcakes were given away by owner David Mirvish along with Mayor John Tory and Police Chief Bill Blair.

With the store due to close in 2016 for a rumoured condo development, this is likely the second last year for the event.
