Roaster Adam Pesce launches his first cafe
Oakville-based Reunion Island Coffee Roasters has been supplying wholesale coffee to other businesses for 20 years. Now it’s time for you to meet Reunion’s staff face to face. They open their first retail location Saturday (May 9) on Roncesvalles.
It’s in a neighbourhood Adam Pesce, director of coffee, feels is a perfect fit with their sustainable values. He spends a lot of his time visiting farms in countries like Guatemala and Brazil and supervising the coffee as it makes its way to customers to make sure it tastes exactly as intended.
“Having our own cafe is a natural extension of that,” he said. “It gives us the opportunity to serve our coffee exactly the way we want it.”
The space is designed as a mix between Canadiana and Nordic: airy, open spaces and bright, clean colours. The espresso machine, hot-water taps and most other equipment are built into or under the counter, leaving lots of space for customers and baristas to chat.
Saturday’s grand opening may not feature balloon animals or rides, says Pesce, but there will be great coffee. It’s also a chance to connect with fellow coffee lovers.
“All our favourite coffee shops are the community shops that start to feel like family. That’s the vibe we want to create, so we really just want to get to know our neighbours.”
