The teen years are difficult for anyone, but they’re especially tough for those who are considered “sick.”

The 14 young people in this show deal with everything from diabetes, brain damage and Down syndrome to ostracization because of their sexual orientation and the colour of their skin. Their inspiring stories, collected and shaped by creator/director Judith Thompson, provide an absorbing look at the challenges they face and how they surmount them.

As with any ensemble, the material and performances vary, but there’s a rawness, energy and unpredictability that feels authentic. And Thompson makes effective use of each individual’s talents, whether it’s an ability to belt out a song, strum a guitar or move like there’s no tomorrow.
