Canada’s Walk of Fame RBC Emerging Musician Program helps aspiring artists launch their careers

RBC EMP - BAYLA

Navigating the ever-evolving music industry in Canada can be difficult, even for experts. Instead of performing at gigs, posting videos on Instagram and TikTok has become a more effective way to reach an audience. The role of record labels has shifted and using technology to access music has become second nature for most. Because of these changes, now more than ever Canadian artists must be flexible, self-motivated and versatile.

Since the country is filled with talented singers, songwriters and musicians, Canada’s Walk of Fame wants to connect these folk with the opportunities that they deserve. This has led the non-profit organization to create the Canada’s Walk of Fame RBC Emerging Musician Program in 2013 – designed to inspire and nurture the next generation of musical talent.

To celebrate the program’s 10th anniversary, this year’s cash prizing has increased. For the past decade, the program has kick-started the careers of its winners, offering unparalleled access to the industry and breakthroughs in Canada’s flourishing music landscape.

With prizes valued at more than $100,000, it provides up-and-coming musicians between the ages of 15 and 35 with exclusive access to the business side of the music industry. Winners will be introduced to established artists and influencers who will provide them with mentorship sessions, funding, artist development insights and performance opportunities across Canada. The program also includes recording time in the studio.

Canada’s Walk Fame CEO Jeffrey Latimer says the program is vital to Canada’s cultural fabric and believes it’s essential that we continue to encourage, empower and elevate our country’s musical talent.

“Year over year, this important program attracts more remarkable musicians from across Canada and gives them unprecedented music industry access, connecting these rising stars with our greatest achievers,” shares Latimer. “It is wonderful to provide emerging talent with opportunities to help them reach a dream that otherwise might feel impossible.”
