Not all Fringe applause comes from audiences and reviewers once a show’s opened. Most Fringe shows are chosen by lottery, but the festival also holds an annual new play contest, whose winner gets a slot in the fest and production funding from Exclamation Productions and macIDeas.

This year’s winner is A Singularity Of Being, a piece by Fringe and SummerWorks regular T. Berto that focuses on a man dealing with a debilitating disease. The strong cast – John Blackwood, Soo Garay, Elizabeth Saunders, David Tripp and Clinton Walker – is directed by Ed Roy (Tarragon Mainspace).
By the luck of the draw, MacIDeas’ Marcello Cabezas has his own Fringe show, Chooch, Bummy Bum And Inguele: From Child To Man-Child (Factory Studio).
