And you thought you had a tight schedule. Two years ago Calgary's Monster Theatre crammed the complete history of Canada into one hour. Now the high-energy trio is taking on the world. Bruce Horak and brothers Jeff and Ryan Gladstone's new Big Rock Show is a 60-minute look at world history. The boys debuted the show in Toronto during last summer's Fringe on the balcony of a friend's apartment. This week the tour continues at the comparatively arena-sized Tim Sims Theatre. See Comedy Listings, page 72, for details.
Best aspect of performing at the Tim Sims? We don't have to ask the audience to close their eyes for the blackouts.
Any sibling rivalry? Jeff: No. Ryan: Yes. Jeff: Shut up. Ryan: Fuck you.
Secret to doing a lot in one hour? Talk fast and skip Australia.
Monster Theatre versus Stephen Hawking on Survivor? He'd kick our asses, but on Temptation Island it would be a lot closer... a lot closer.
How have we evolved? Cave men used to rape women and be afraid of nature, now we rape nature and are afraid of women.
What really happened to the dinosaurs? They're in Parliament.
Period you'd most like to live in? Ancient Greece: they knew how to party and their government supported theatre.
One hundred years from now, what will Martha Stewart be known for? Getting Michael Jackson out of the news.
Will the world end with a bang or a whimper? It'll be something like a sigh... and then someone will light a smoke.
What do you do for an encore? Let out a sigh, light a smoke, wait 15 minutes and do it again.
