Adventures with slinky

Rating: NNNNN

Eryn Dace Trudell is determined not to frighten people away from modern dance. For one thing, she’s become less serious, more playful. Witness her latest piece, Slinky Trailers (opening March 15 at Artword), named after her experimentation with the child’s toy and a bare wall. “There’s a childlike, exploratory feel to the show,” says one of the city’s most innovative dance artists about her collaboration with musician Boo Watson, whom she met several years ago at a Strange Sisters cabaret. In the full-length piece, Trudell, Watson, a baby grand and a couple of aluminum pipes evoke everything from country/city cliches to butch-femme lesbian stereotypes. At one point they’re sitting at the piano plunking out tunes in their underwear, and by the end Trudell’s wrapped in a feather boa. What comes in between is anyone’s guess.
