Michael Hughes

At last year’s Fringe, Michael Hughes made us love him with Mickey & Judy, which chronicled his lifelong obsession with Judy Garland through white-hot renditions of her biggest hits and poignant autobiographical stories about growing up a misfit gay kid. He’s taking it to the Edinburgh Festival later this year, but not before participating in another Garland-related play, The Judy Monologues, Darren Stewart-Jones’s show based on voice tapes recorded by the singer before she died.

After the West End and Broadway success of End Of The Rainbow, about the singer’s final days, Garland is more popular than ever. Keep your eye on Hughes, who’s got star quality written all over him.

Starts July 6 at Annex Theatre.
