Little Fires is a quietly fascinating double bill of contemporary dance.

In the animals are planning an intervention, Lucy Rupert shows off her trademark fluidity and otherworldly way of moving. Alone in a strange universe of bodily tics and great gusts of energy that seem to blow her across the stage like an undulating leaf, Rupert seems superbly self-contained. But a moment of exposure near the end of the piece demonstrates that she is in fact aware of everyone and everything else in the room.

Karissa Fyrrar’s A Pocket Full of Matches takes a very different approach, following four women through a series of subtle vignettes featuring small disruptions and disasters. The work feels slightly unfinished, but a light touch with form may simply be part of this choreographer’s unique style. Fyrrar is one to watch.
