Rating: NNNN
This sketch ensemble comprised of Second City alums reflects on our self-obsessed culture with some hilarious Toronto-centric skits.
The Weaker Vessels specialize in exceedingly dark, yes-they-went-there humour. One of the best scenes is about an increasingly frustrated TTC subway operator who breaks down and barks scathing and extremely specific personal criticisms at passengers who ignore his orders to leave an out-of-service train. Another is a gloomy vision of the present-day life of 1993 World Series star Joe Carter, obsessively watching a VHS tape of his game-winning homer over and over.
Drawing inspiration from the brainier side of Kids In The Hall, the quintet also explores time travel, experiments in talking dirty to your partner, and the mysterious lives of medical doctors.
Guaranteed laughs.
