Light Manoeuvres

Rating: NNNNN

Tomorrow night (Friday, December 21) is the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year. With thoughts of wooing the sun back to our cold and dark land, the 19th annual Festival Of Lights wends its way through Kensington Market with theatre, song, dance and, of course, lots of illumination.

Sponsored by Red Pepper Spectacle Arts, the event – part parade, part spectacle – includes performances by Shadowland, Clay and Paper, Jumblies Theatre, various choruses, Samba Squad, Rich Underhill and the Kensington Community Orchestra, EagleHeart Drummers and Singers and the Island ARhythmics percussionists.

The festival begins at 6 pm at Augusta and Oxford. As usual, it’s a participatory event, so wear a costume, carry a lantern or bring a drum or pot to beat. For more info, call 416-598-3729 www.redpepperspectaclearts.org.
