Miller’s timing is great

Whether he’s sitting in the head honcho’s seat or functioning as a private citizen, former Toronto mayor David Miller understands the vitality of the arts in Toronto.

Miller, who’s always acknowledged the financial and social importance of supporting the city’s artists, has given the Toronto Fringe Festival its biggest donation ever — a matching $10,000 grant to support the festival’s new Creation Lab.

The year-round, multidisciplinary studio space will offer independent artists an affordable place to plan and create new works with subsidies, the cost of rentals will be under $10 an hour, a bargain in Toronto.

Miller’s grant, to a maximum of $10,00 will match every new donation that comes in to the Creation Lab throughout the Fringe — that’s through this Sunday, July 17. The capital campaign goal is $100,000.
