Musical mashups

NXNE might have just wrapped up, but the music keeps on playing at the Fringe. Besides the usual bevy of musicals (promising ones include: BURNT… and toasted!, Nobody’s Idol, The Musical Of Musicals: The Musical! and a remount of Jennifer Walls’s Liza Live!), a couple of shows take on musical icons.

Katherine Sandford’s Elvis Is Water (from July 4 at the Tarragon Extra Space) explores the famous Sun Sessions and one man’s obsession with the King’s music, while bekky O’Neil’s Urge For Going (pictured, from July 4 at the Tarragon Mainspace) is about a prairie girl who wants to follow in the footsteps of her idol, Joni Mitchell. Hmm… wonder if Luminato luminary Mitchell will stay in town to see it?
