It's never too late for a makeover, as you'll discover when the Premiere Dance Theatre celebrates its 25th anniversary by unveiling a new look this weekend.
The star-studded, three-night program offers a different host every night: Karen Kain, Albert Schultz and Christopher House. The lineup includes some of the country's best dance artists who've all performed there, like Margie Gillis, Peter Chin and Kaeja d'Dance's Karen Kaeja. See Dance Listings.
The Premiere Dance Theatre is turning 25. What were you doing at 25?
At 25 I had just moved to New York City for six weeks to experience dance full throttle and see if that was really the path I was going to head down. I ended up moving 13 times from sublet to sublet . Each time I moved, I told my family I was going to just stay a bit longer. I ended up living there for one and a half years, dancing with a company and touring to Europe.
What kinds of shows will be mounted at the PDT in another 25 years?
Hopefully, shows that are personal and inventive, way out there and thought-provoking.
Favourite green room moment?
Calling home to say goodnight to my daughters and hearing in their voices that they don't "need me" to come home moments before going onstage.
Most memorable things you've seen at the PDT?
Claudia Moore and Robert Desrosiers dancing together as black and white two-sided creatures; the work of Ginette Lauren; Le Dortoir by Carbon 14.
Most memorable thing you've done there?
Backstage, it'd have to be seeing posters of so many great companies that performed there and feeling huge adoration for those artists. Onstage, it'd have to be riding on a swing half-naked.
