Fringe Review: Getting Odd

GETTING ODD by Allison Harris and Holly Wyder. Factory Studio. July 2 at 9:15 pm, July 4 at 1:15 pm, July 5 at 4:45 pm, July 7 at 9:45 pm, July 8 at noon, July 9 at 4 pm. Buy tickets. Rating: NNN

The danger of fame, the hunger for celebrity culture and the struggle endured by mental health sufferers are covered with attention-grabbing drama in this two-hander taking place solely in a cabin in the woods. Amy (Allison Harris) stumbles on the cabin during a storm, where a recluse (Holly Wyder) has been attempting to Walden it up far from city life. What follows is a thrilling mystery that picks up in the second half.

What hurts the play are several cutaways that are more confusing than revealing. But thankfully the two writer/performers have a warm chemistry, and the ending is such an eye-popper it’s hard to dislike.

Highly recommended to anyone who loves a good mystery.
