Fringe Review: Wireless Connection

WIRELESS CONNECTION by Amy Adams and Kylie Thompson. Al Green Theatre. July 3 at 3:15 pm, July 4 at 8:30 pm, July 6 at 8:45 pm, July 7 at 7:30 pm, July 9 at 5:45 pm. Buy tickets. Rating NNN

As the title indicates, Wireless Connection looks at the personal devices that rule our social lives. Much of this dance for seven performers takes place by the light of glowing mobile screens, a gentle representation of our increasing dependence on virtual connections over flesh and blood engagement.

Co-creators Amy Adams and Kylie Thompson have made some smart directorial choices in harnessing the ubiquitous familiarity of ring tones, group selfies and ambient projections to frame the choreography. Along with some exceptionally strong dancing (I was especially impressed by Rakeem Hardy and Adams herself, but the entire cast is technically accomplished), these creative touches go a long way in making up for what has become a tired premise.
