dora, dora, dora
The 23rd annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards get handed out in a big schmoozefest at the Princess of Wales on June 17 (call 416-872-1212 for tickets), but if you didn't see all the big plays this season, you can catch writers and actors reading scenes from some of the best-new-play Dora nominees.
This Monday (June 3), Jennifer Tarver reads from her nominated work History Play (which also earned her a much-deserved directing nomination); Ned Dickens reads from his epic and poetic Icara; nominated actors Tanja Jacobs and Caroline Gillis read, respectively, from Carole Frechette's Elisa's Skin and Daniel MacIvor's You Are Here; and Hrant Alianak reads from his The Walls Of Africa.
Morwyn Brebner, one of the funniest playwrights around, hosts. This is a rare opportunity to witness some of the best writing -- and two of the strongest contenders for best performance by a female in a principal role -- of last season. And it's all free! 8 pm. NOW Lounge (189 Church). 416-364-1301.
