Shootin’ Gun

Top Gun! The Musical ‘s soaring so high that the show’s been held over until June 29. David Collins has to leave the show for the added week (he’s rehearsing Twelfth Night in High Park), and Philip Akin replaces him as the production’s mysterious General. No sweat for Akin – he played a general in the Hollywood hit The Sum Of All Fears. Ironically, Top Gun!, which was a big hit at last year’s Fringe Festival, has to close to make room for productions in this year’s fest.

Czech this out

Ran into lighting designer extraordinaire Jan Komarek at MOonhORsE dance theatre’s latest show (see review, page 84). It’s his first Toronto gig in a while, for he’s moved back to the Czech Republic and works out of his home city of Prague. Komarek, a sculptor with light and shadow, has been creating works with a dance school in his home town and touring to other Czech cities as well. Next up? Staging a piece in a baroque church, working in a room with 35 larger-than-life-size statues.
