Spicy Paprika

Growing steadily for the past few years, the Paprika Festival provides a vital opportunity for theatre artists under 21 to demonstrate their skills. The third fest – and the last under founding artistic producer Anthony Furey – brings together a trio of works that all ask, notes Furey, “What’s going on?” Now in first-year university, writer/director Furey’s more determined than ever to make the festival a forum where “one person tells another person a story. Anyone growing up in our urban society needs a good cultural filter, since so much is being thrown at us. Each of the three plays sifts through our contemporary reality to find some kind of meaning.”

The pieces, dramaturged by Stephen Colella , are Michael Albert ‘s Four Sons , Briana Brown ‘sand Megan Patterson ‘s More Than Breath and Daniel Karasik ‘s In Europe The Ceilings Are Very High.

Next year Natasha Mytnowych , a participant in the fest’s inaugural year, takes over from Furey. See Openings, page 68, for details.
