New at the Alumnae
The Alumnae Theatre seeks never-before-produced short scripts for its 18th annual New Ideas Festival , running next March as part of the company's 2005-2006 season. The juried festival requires no fee from participants. Deadline is September 16. Check out Alumnae's website, www.alumnaetheatre.com , for details.
Buddies in Bad Times is looking for members for its 2005-06 Ante Chamber Playwrights' Unit and has also put out a call for Rhubarb! Festival submissions. The Ante Chamber unit is a group of queer or queer-positive playwrights who meet throughout the season under the guidance of artistic director David Oiye and dramaturg Ed Roy to work on scripts in development. For more info, contact Oiye at 416-975-9130 or firstname.lastname@example.org . Deadline is September 2.
This year's Rhubarb! Fest, scheduled for February, seeks proposals and scripts for productions no longer than 25 minutes. The works must be new, not yet produced and original. Submissions that do not include a completed script should be as detailed as possible. Contact Oiye or his Rhubarb! co-director, Erika Hennebury , for details. Deadline is September 30.
Also starting up this year at Buddies is a Young Playwrights' Unit aimed at queer youth under 25 seeking to develop their script-writing and play-creation skills.
Idea's identity focus
Fado 's ongoing IDea project, an international performance art series focusing on issues of identity, is looking for proposals for performance art presentations for the 2006-07 season. The company's search includes works that are conceptual, site-responsive and installation-based. Curated by Paul Couillard , the series considers a broad range of identity labels, including gender, skin colour, ethnic origin, religion, sexual orientation, political affiliation and economic status, though these categories can be considered simply the starting point for individual artistic works.
