Bitter fruit

The fabulous women of bittergirl Annabel Griffiths , Alison Lawrence and Mary Francis Moore – don’t have much to be bitter about these days. Their show about getting dumped started out as a half-hour cabaret piece at the Rhubarb! fest in 1999, went on to self-produced productions at the now defunct Tim Sims Playhouse and the Pilot Tavern. Then earlier this year, a non-fiction guide inspired by the play called Bittergirl: Getting Over Getting Dumped got released by Penguin Books.

Now the three are storming Manhattan. Next Wednesday (September 14) they launch the American version of the book with a reading at SoHo’s funky McNally Robinson bookstore. And this morning (Thursday, September 8) they’re appearing on The Today Show with Katie Couric sometime after 9 am.

Seems getting dumped was the best thing to happen to them. “Now,” they wrote us recently, “we just have to figure out what to wear.”
