Two titans of the theatre scene get feted this weekend. Theatre Passe Muraille artistic director Layne Coleman is stepping down after a decade there, while the Tarragon Theatre 's associate artistic director, Andy McKim , leaves his post to take up the top spot at TPM.
The bash for Coleman takes place Saturday (May 26), and we're promised music, lots of tributes and one rockin' night. (TPM, maybe because of its great vertical space, has always hosted terrific parties.)
The Tarragon tribute takes place the next night, and confirmed performers include Maja Ardal , Patricia Hamilton , Michael Healey , Susan Coyne , Kate Lynch , Morwyn Brebner , Eda Holmes and others.
Both celebrations are free.
It's that time of year again. The Harold Awards , the irreverent celebration of T.O.'s indie dance and theatre scene, hands out its awards this week in honour of Harold Kandel , the late "heckler with heart" who would now be 101 years old. Last year's Haroldees have chosen a whole new batch of worthy winners, and one talented person will walk away with the Ken McDougall Award for emerging directors.
The action happens Monday (May 28) at the Lula Lounge. See One-Nighters or go to www.theharoldawards.com, for details.
