Many comics keep weird hours, but this weekend they'll be weirder than usual. The Second City is presenting The Second City That Never Sleeps , the second annual 24-hour improv marathon to raise funds for the Therapeutic Clown Program at Sick Kids Hospital.
Confirmed guests include the ubiquitous Colin Mochrie , former WWE champ Trish Stratus , comics Seán Cullen and Pat McKenna , TV host George Stroumboulopoulos , the cast of Evil Dead: The Musical and - just back from his trip to Calgary, where he missed T.O.'s opening Luminato fest ceremonies - Mayor David Miller .
Look for other surprise guests, both comic and musical, to drop by between Sunday (June 10) at noon and Monday at noon. For more info about the Therapeutic Clown Program, which brings laugher to sick kids (think Patch Adams, except funny), call 416-813-6629.
Guns 'n' roses
If you're all rested up from that 24-hour improv event, head over to the Gladstone Hotel on Wednesday (June 13), for Guns Suck , a night of comedy to raise funds for the community organization Belka Enrichment Centre .
Improv duo Pat Kelly and Peter Oldring , the wacky hosts of that online morning talk show www.goodmorningworld.com , have organized the event in the wake of the recent school shooting of Jordan Manners . Belka (see www.caglomissions.org) helps develop the academic and social potential of low-income and at-risk youth in the Jane and Finch area.
Kelly and Oldring (who recently wowed the opening-night Spiegel Show crowd at Luminato) host a night that includes comics Kathleen Phillips , Levi MacDougall , Sabrina Jalees and Fraser Young , plus musicians Justin Rutledge and Gravity Wave .
We've all heard the rumours of a Kids in the Hall reunion. Here's your chance to ask KITH/NewsRadio alum Dave Foley about it in person - and maybe get him to sign your A Bug's Life: Collector's Edition DVD while you're at it.
Foley's making a rare live appearance at the North By Northeast Fest (NXNE) in his own play with music, The Tribute . The show, performed Friday and Saturday (June 8-9) at old KITH haunt the Rivoli, chronicles the reunion of a 1980s girl band that split apart when one of the members went solo. Hmmm... it worked for Dreamgirls, right?
Foley's also acting as a mediator between Berlin-based electrotrash diva Peaches and her manager Friday (June 8) as part of the NXNE Music Conference. No kidding.
