The SummerWorks Performance Festival continued its series of high concept, theatrical musical performances last week (see our roundup of the first half here).
The first night was devoted to Scott Walker, a musician who took his golden baritone from performing sunny pop with The Walker Brothers to releasing unnerving avant garde music. Adam Paolozza and Gregory Oh’s tribute featured a choir, a range of soloists and some pulverized pizza dough.
Wednesday night was a celebration. LAL upped the theatricality with exaggerated white dresses and a trio of dancers, and by the end, audience members were taking turns on the catwalk stage.
The next night’s Germaphobes show ended in dancing, too, but not before a calm set from Anamai and shadow puppets by Caterwaul Theatre.
Still Boys capped off the music series, with a crazy spectacle including a giant cyclops face, a dancing tongue and a four-armed snake charmer. During the last song, the audience was invited to go inside the giant face, crawling through the lips and a series of crawl tunnels to end up in another room.
