Theatre couple

Nina Lee Aquino and Richard Lee

Aquino and Lee have been reinventing and reinvigorating Asian-Canadian theatre through fu-GEN Theatre, where she’s artistic director and he’s general manager. The pair worked together on fu-GEN’s first show, Banana Boys (a new production opens next month) and regularly collaborate on other projects.

A dramaturge, writer, actor and director, Aquino is artistic producer for the Factory Theatre’s CrossCurrents Festival and has received the Ken McDougall Award and the John Hirsch Prize for her directing work, which rarely seems to slow down. As if that’s not enough, she’s also editing an anthology of Asian-Canadian plays.

Lee divides his time among acting (two Dora nominations), producing, fight directing and martial arts. In addition, he’s a sound designer, most recently for Obsidian.
