WOMEN WHO TALK TOO MUCH AND THE MICROPHONES THAT LOVE THEM written and performed by Micki Moore, directed by Ian Ferguson. Poor Alex (296 Brunswick). Runs to November 16, Thursday-Saturday 8 pm. $35, stu $15. 416-923-1644. Rating: N Rating: N
Former talk-show host and mi-nor celebrity Micki Moore's first solo show should be called Women Who Think They're Funny And The Suckers Who'll Pay $35 To Find Out Otherwise. Her monotonous series of 10 monologues about women and public speaking displays one thing -- her ability to change clothes quickly. She pays more attention to couture, cleavage and coifs than character.
Fitting, I guess, for a woman who hosted a show called You're Beautiful.
The only sketch with any subtext -- or comic truth -- is the second to last, in which a Rosedale matron addresses a hospital board and exposes her racial prejudice. Cute at best.
Sin City's Ian Ferguson should have thought twice before allowing his name to appear as director. The between-scenes announcer -- who reads annoying postscripts about Moore's characters that will have you retching -- was smarter.
