NOW Picks : Postwar perfection

… AND STOCKINGS FOR THE LADIES by Attila Clemann, directed by Zach Fraser. Presented by Gesamtkunstwerk at the Tarragon Extra Space. July 13 at 9:45 pm, July 15 at 2:45 pm. Rating: NNNNN

Here’s a Fringe gem. Two Royal Canadian Air Force men sent to Germany just after World War II are moved by the plight of displaced persons liberated from Bergen-Belsen concentration camp the pair are determined, despite orders from superiors, to help the former inmates rediscover life and freedom. Attila Clemann‘s beautifully crafted play about compassion and humanity gets a splendid production under director Zach Fraser. Full marks to solo performer Brendan McMurtry-Howlett, who gives a bravura performance as several dozen characters, both human and puppet. A not-to-be-missed show.
