FUNNY BUSINESS - THE MUSICAL by Daniel Abrahamson, Rachel Brittain and Daniel Falk, directed by Marc Richard. Presented by Funny Business at the Robert Gill. July 13 at 5:15 pm, July 14 at 10:30 pm. Rating: NNNNN
Every stereotype of the corporate world gets lambasted in this brilliant musical comedy. The addition of flat-screen monitors onstage and a keyboard player instead of an orchestra gives the show a modern edge, but it maintains the heart of a great Broadway musical by including elements like good-guys-vs-bad-guys, falling in love, misunderstandings and revenge. It even ingeniously works the keyboardist, lighting booth and audience into the story.
In a strong cast, standouts include Trevor Campbell, whose body language perfectly captures Jack the intern's social awkwardness, and Alison Woolridge, who manages to make shallow marketing manager Diane endearing. Good Company Entertainment, which created the show, is definitely one to watch.
