Seeing Red

Rating: NNN

If Vancouver’s Live On Release hadn’t come along, you can bet some label would’ve built its own younger, poppier and safer version of the surprisingly successful Kittie. The rambunctious Runaways-style teen protegees of Bif Naked turn their disgust with prefab pop into the snappy sing-along dis I’m Afraid Of Britney Spears, which may be catchy and charming enough to become an international novelty hit. Just in case, Live On Release should start working on a follow-up, since their dim ruminations on skater-boy dating filling up the rest of disc make the Donnas sound like freakin’ scholars. Live On Release are at the Horseshoe tonight (Thursday, May 3) and the Warehouse Friday (May 4).
