GRONINGEN, HOLLAND - The Eurosonic Music Festival in notorious Dutch rock town, Groningen at the edge of the North Sea just a few kilometers from the German border is a lot like Toronto's NXNE with less bands and helluva a lot more mayonnaise.
The event is a showcase for European acts and this compact Dutch town is rammed with the usual rock riff raff as well as something very rare in North America, representatives of national governments who are charged with raising the profile of their country's bands. It's a vital event with high quality bands and serious networking. It offers festival wristbands and conference passes with two days of the Eurosonic festival followed by a Saturday that showcases only Dutch bands.
NOW was there was well as NXNE programmer John Kastner, still recognized on the streets by enthusiastic Euro-fans of his old band the Doughboys and its safe to say the Euro representation at NXNE this June will feature some of the best acts from this talent scouting field trip.
