Environment Canada has upgraded its special weather statement to a winter weather travel advisory in Toronto on Monday.

Up to 10 cm of snow is expected to begin late this afternoon or early evening and end by early Tuesday morning.

The national weather agency says peak snowfall rates of two to four centimetres per hour are expected, particularly during the evening commute.

“Snow is expected to begin late this afternoon or early this evening and may be heavy at times this evening. The snow may become mixed with ice pellets late this evening before tapering to light snow, drizzle or freezing drizzle by early Tuesday morning,” Environment Canada says on its website.

Strong winds gusting up to 60 km/h are also expected tonight and into Tuesday.

Environment Canada says travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather tonight and that residents should prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.

However, one famous beekeeper in southern Ontario predicts the pending wintry weather won’t be that bad.

“I don’t think we’re going to get this big storm that they’re talking about,” Lee Moore, aka The Angry Beekpeeper, said in a TikTok video on Sunday.

Moore, who has gained popularity for his weather forecasts based on his bees’ activity, says his bees have been very active which suggests there won’t be a big swing in weather conditions.

“Will there be a little freezing rain, a little bit of snow? Sure. But it’s really not going to be worth even mentioning. Maybe tomorrow (Monday) night driving might get a little bit slippery but, once again guys, this is not something to go to the store and stock up on chips and tampons,” he said.

Monday’s high is set to be minus 1 C but will feel like minus 12 with the windchill, and tonight’s temperature will hold steady near zero.
