Alanis Morissette Feast On Scraps (Maverick/Warner) Rating: NNN Rating: NNN

Just in time for the holidays, Ms. Morissette appears with a stocking stuffer for her most devoted fans. Feast On Scraps is an outtakes collection of material recorded during the sessions for last spring’s Under Rug Swept, and it’s clear why this stuff didn’t make the cut. It’s par for the Alanis course: another boyfriend review (Bent For You), another navel-gazing self esteem-booster (Sorry To Myself), another grumpy breakup tune (Simple Together), tied together with a mix of the typically exotic eastern-influenced atmospherics and stormy guitars. It’d be a stretch to sell this to non-fanatic admirers, but Maverick’s cleverly packaged the CD with a pretty cool bonus DVD, a so-called “conceptual scrapbook” of candid Morissette moments from studio sessions and international tours. Shrewd move. Morissette plays the Air Canada Centre tonight (Thursday, December 12).
