America: A Tribute to Heroes (Joint Network Benefit) Rating: NNNThis two-disc set collecting the songs performed by Stevie Wonder, U2, Billy Joel, Mariah Carey, Bon Jovi, Sting, Sheryl Crow, Faith Hill and others on the September 11 telethon is not just notable for combined star power, but for the way the major labels came together, forming an alliance rarely seen outside of hits packages. It seems as though everyone’s hearts are in the right place, yet knowing how many of the artists involved are songwriters, it’s a bit surprising that only Bruce Springsteen had the stuff to deliver a meaningful and moving original composition, My City Of Ruin, when it counted.
